The Importance of Medication Management

Why Medication Management Matters

Few things stir as much controversy as Medication Management for psychiatric and psychological conditions.  Some people are completely against the use of medications for any reason, believing that those that use them are weak and those prescribing them are merely just drugging people with Medication Management.  However, nothing could be farther from the truth.  When used appropriately, Medication Management can literally make the difference between life and death for many people.  How often do we hear in the news of a shooting somewhere and by someone who is discovered to have some mental illness or another?  Just think of the recent case of the woman in Washington DC, who tried to run through the White House Gates, then led a chase down Pennsylvania Ave and finally after trying to break through a Capital Building barricade was shot and killed by police.  Who would commit such a crazy terroristic-looking act with a 1-year-old infant in the back seat of her car?  A young mom suffering from untreated post-partum depression is who.  Had she received appropriate Medication Management with psychiatric medication to treat, improve and eventually resolve her depression, this tragic event may have been avoided.

But some would say that is on the news, not in my life.  Yet every day kids with ADHD, OCD and Tourette’s struggle in school, others are bullied and the list goes on.  Without proper Medication Management and therapy they not only suffer with their own conditions, but also can develop depression on top of them.  Additionally, what about adults that don’t receive appropriate Medication Management.  They go on to suffer with their difficulties and this affects their work, family life and social life.  As they spiral into greater depression and mental illness the lack of appropriate Medication Management for them begins to impact society as a whole and soon the cycle of violence and pain can start again.  Don’t suffer alone, at Proliance center we are here to help.  Give us a call today.
