Life Coaching
At Proliance, we believe in approaching our patients with the most comprehensive form of wellness care. We have seen the approaches to wellness evolve over time and have a great respect for new ways of helping our patients find happiness and fulfillment. Life coaching is a process of teaching or training individuals to achieve specific personal or professional goals with the aim of increasing personal growth or professional advancement. It is based heavily on the young field of Positive Psychology, which was first introduced in 1998 by Martin Seligman and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. Trained and experienced life coaches help individuals to identify and achieve their goals through a variety of tools, techniques, and accountability.
How is life coaching different from psychotherapy?
It is important to recognize that life coaching and psychotherapy are two separate fields. Often, principles of life coaching can be used in conjunction with psychotherapy, however, principles of psychotherapy cannot be used in the realm of life coaching. Life coaching does not focus on examining nor diagnosing the past and does not examine emotional difficulties or mental illness.
It is goal-focused rather than problem-focused. It helps us to actualize our potential and attain a sense of balance in order to achieve greatness.
When You Can’t Decide
How do I choose the right life coach for me?
Choosing a life coach can be a difficult decision. Because this field is fairly new in nature, there are few requirements for an individual to become a life coach. It is important to not only choose a coach with whom you connect, but one with experience and training in the field. At Proliance Center, life coaching is not only provided by a clinician highly educated and licensed in the field of mental health, but one who is also a Board Certified Coach (BCC). At Proliance, our life coach completed training at a program accredited by the International Coach Federation (ICF), which is the organization that sets and monitors the international standards for professional coaching ethics, training and practices. We feel that in order to provide our clients with the best care, we must be the best at what we do and education and training is a significant component of that expertise.
