Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Evaluations

Basic Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Evaluation – 60 minutes

You will find that with all things considered we have a very affordable Cost

What is it?

  • This is a basic and introductory evaluation that takes place with the parents only.
  • This is a face-to-face evaluation that will last about one hour.
  • This psychiatric evaluation is appropriate for the parents who are not yet ready to commit to a Comprehensive Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Evaluation or for whom the cost of a Comprehensive Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Evaluation is initially prohibitive.

Who may want this evaluation?

  • Those who want to try out Dr. Mike first
  • Parents of a potential child or adolescent patient who could be new to the practice:  This may occur in the case of parents who desire an evaluation by a medically trained Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, but don’t necessarily need or want the child or adolescent to be on medication at this time.  For instance, if the child or adolescent will need therapy first, the parents may not want to incur the expense of a full and comprehensive psychiatric evaluation at this time.
  • Appointment for second opinion:  Parents who already have their child or adolescent in treatment with another professional may want a general and non-specific second opinion on the child or adolescent’s condition and treatment.  The appointment would allow the parents to get a fresh perspective on what may be going on with their child or adolescent, without have to bring the child or adolescent in to see “someone else.”
  • Appointment for medication management only – ok with current meds:  This is an option for parents who are very satisfied with their child or adolescent’s current treatment plan and diagnosis. They may be transitioning from the child or adolescent’s current doctor to Dr. Mike for further care.  This situation could occur in the case of a move, for instance.
  • Appointment for medication management only – looking for new provider:  This is an option for parents who are NOT satisfied with the current provider and who are considering a transition from the child or adolescent’s current doctor to Dr. Mike for further care.  This situation could also occur in cases where parents don’t feel their child or adolescent’s current provider is a good fit for them or their child.  Regardless, they may want to see if Dr. Mike is a good fit for their child or adolescent without having to bring the child or adolescent in to see “someone else.”
  • Appointment for information only:  This is an option for the parent of a child or adolescent when the other parent does not want the child or adolescent to see a psychiatrist.  The inquiring parent can get information from the doctor as to what may be going on with the child or adolescent and guidance on how to get help.

Comprehensive Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Evaluation  – 120 Minutes

You will find that with all things considered we have a very affordable – Cost

What is it?

This is the best evaluation for a child or adolescent, in that it is a full and complete evaluation.

  • It is a two-hour face-to-face evaluation, after which the doctor spends another hour (a third hour) writing a report.
  • It includes the Basic Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Evaluation with the parents for one hour and is followed by a second hour.
  • The second hour of this evaluation will include a meeting and evaluation of the child or adolescent followed by a discussion with the parents of the doctor’s analysis of the child or adolescent and a suggested plan of action.
  • This evaluation will include extensive time to educate the parents of the child or adolescent on what is going on with their child or adolescent and why certain treatment suggestions are being made and others are not.  Dr. Mike feels that it is very important to teach parents as much of what he knows so that by understanding what is going on with their child or adolescent they can be better participants, as a team with Dr. Mike, in the process of treating their child or adolescent.
